Last week we asked our staff to celebrate JustGive’s tenth anniversary by reflecting on their work and the causes that motivate them to do more each day. Personally, I’m a newcomer: I joined JustGive last year when I Do Foundation and JustGive merged.

What I love about JustGive is that it is constantly searching for innovative ways to make charitable giving a part of everyday life. I believe that giving isn’t something left to the end of the year, but something that’s a part of you.  JustGive’s tools and corporate partnerships allow me to choose the nonprofits I favor and give back every day.

I have trouble choosing my favorite nonprofit, but my charity of choice? Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. With Ashoka, I’m able to choose any and all of the thousands of social entrepreneurs around the world elected to their Fellowship.

Here are the stories of some of my coworkers:

Candy Culver, Marketing Consultant

Joined JustGive in 2007

“After Sheila Lewis introduced me to JustGive three years ago, I was hooked!” says Candy Culver, the nonprofit’s marketing consultant and owner of Culver Communication & Marketing.

“JustGive makes such a difference in the world—connecting nonprofits of any size with everyday donors who are offered several different ways to give. Knowing that we help so many in need is incredibly fulfilling. I am proud to work with the team of caring and diligent professionals that makes it happen.”

Julia Hughes, Customer Service Manager

Joined JustGive in 2009

“I feel lucky to have worked at JustGive over the past year,” says Julia Hughes, Customer Service Manager. She loves the variety of people and organizations she talks to every day. “It’s nice that I can go home at the end of the day and know that I am part of something that results in wonderful goals being met throughout the world,” reflect Julia.

“JustGive provides the stability and benefits I was looking for as well as opportunities beyond my expectations to use my strengths and talents,” she states. “That and the wonderful people JustGive attracts to work here make me hope that I will continue to be a part of this for a long time to come.” Knowing how JustGive helps nonprofits makes going to work every day a pleasure for Julia.

BDan Fairchild, Director of Technology for I Do Foundation

Joined JustGive in 2009, Joined I Do Foundation in 2003

“I was convinced to join the I Do Foundation in 2003 by Larry Miller, its founding Director of Technology, and began work as a minimally-paid AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer,” remembers BDan Fairchild, Director of Technology of I Do Foundation.  “Since then, I’ve been developing and maintaining the technology that helps couples bring a charitable focus to their weddings.

With the average wedding in the United States costing around $28,000, diverting even a fraction of that to charitable causes can make a big difference, so he’s always felt he’s doing something worthwhile. “Since the I Do Foundation merged with JustGive in 2009, I’ve been doing the same for JustGive,” states BDan.

His favorite charity is the International Dark-Sky Association, which works to preserve the beauty of the night sky by advocating for better designed lighting.

Michele Walsh, Director of Finance

Joined JustGive in 2007

Michele Walsh, Director of Finance, joined JustGive four years ago because she was drawn to our unique fundraising model.  JustGive combines internet technologies, individuals, and corporations to expand charitable giving to any nonprofit in the United States.

“I am interested in so many causes and JustGive allows my work to impact thousands of charities,” says Michele. “Every day, I get to help the Haiti Reconstruction, fundraise for the Ocean Conservancy, and promote wedding gifts to Amnesty International.  And the list doesn’t even end there…”
